Amazon is a close second to Target when it comes to my favorite things in life. Did you know you can register for your baby shower through Amazon too? If you have Amazon Prime just register and spend $10, then you get to pick out a free baby stuff welcome box to be sent to your doorstep. The items in the welcome box are typically valued around $35, so it’s a pretty great deal!

However, this isn't guaranteed to work as there's no set rule on whether the law covers gift cards. Also, Section 75 only applies to single items worth over £100, so you aren't covered if you bought multiple gift cards for smaller amounts, regardless of the total cost. See our Section 75 guide for more info (and be aware you may need the gift giver to claim for you as they're the one who paid).

The Family Planning Association told us: "All the brands on the high street, including cheaper own brands, are extremely accurate. Just because a test is from a pound shop doesn't make it less reliable. The most important thing is for women to make sure they can understand the instructions and what they're supposed to do with the test to make it work."
Gift cards have been criticized for the ability of the issuer to set rules that are detrimental to the purchaser or card recipient. For example, gift cards may be subject to an expiry date, administrative fees, restrictions on use, and absence of adequate protection in case of fraud or loss.[2] Over time fees may render the value of a gift card zero. However, these issues have been addressed in recent years in some jurisdictions. In the United States, many jurisdictions limit or prohibit all fees or expiration dates for gift cards. Further, because of the negative impact on sales that such policies can have, most merchants have adopted and even advertise a "no fee, no expiration" policy for their gift cards, whether or not state laws require it. In 2011, an estimated 2.5% of gift cards were subject to an expiration date and 2.7% to post-sale fees.[12]

If you're buying pricey baby equipment which you plan to sell after you've used it, forumites recommend hanging on to the boxes if you've got space. Selling items in their original boxes may help to fetch a better price, though only sell when you're sure you won't need the items again. See the eBay Selling Tricks guide for tips to help you get the best price.

All Canadian provinces have legislations passed to ban expiry dates and fees collected on gift cards.[17] However, provincial gift card legislations do not apply to sectors that are regulated under federal laws. For example, gift cards that resemble credit cards (i.e. with Visa, MasterCard or American Express branding) and phone cards are regulated by the federal government. Under the federal Prepaid Payment Products Regulations, effective May 1, 2014, federally regulated gift cards may only charge maintenance fees under certain conditions, and may not set an expiry date for funds on those cards.[18]

Gift vouchers (sometimes known as gift tokens) are printed paper gifts available in pre-determined values that can be spent in specific stores. They can be single brand gift vouchers or multi-retailer gift vouchers. Multi-retailer gift vouchers have the additional benefit of being redeemable in more than one store or brand. Gift vouchers and multi-retailer Gift vouchers can be used as full or part payment of items at the checkout of participating stores and are often used as an alternative to cash.

I've received a gift card/voucher – what should I do with it? It's simple – spend it as quickly as possible! That way you won't be affected if the retailer does go bust, plus you minimise the risk of you losing it/shoving it somewhere safe and forgetting all about it until after the credit runs out. Remember, most gift cards and vouchers have expiry dates.
